The Simpsons famously predicted both Siri and Trump’s presidency. The show has had a similar knack for predicting important hair trends. While you might not see too many blue beehives day to day, the Simpsons totally showcased some of 2018’s biggest hair trends long before 2018.

Season 7, episode 20 – PASTEL HAIR – Alexander Wang SS 2018

Pastel tones continue to be a trend for Spring/Summer 2018, from Pantone’s Sea Fog purple to the perennially popular pastel pink. In this episode, Bart and the boys are way ahead of the curve with their soft-toned palette – and, of course, wigs are always a great option for those who don’t want to commit to color.

Season 19, episode 20 – THE SCRUNCHIE – Mansur Gavriel SS 2018

The scrunchie has been this season’s surprise hot accessory at shows including Mansur Gavriel, and where women’s beauty trends go, men (slowly) follow. Here, unlikely style icon, Comic Book Guy models the man scrunchie – will it catch on amongst other dudes? Let’s see.

Season 8, episode 15 – BOBBED BOUFFANT – Moschino FW 2018

Bart’s friendship with John Waters inspires him to go bold with a bobbed bouffant wig. The sweeping bangs, paired with serious volume make for a sweet 60s look, similar to the retro bouffant wigs seen at Moschino this season. Switch that bow out for a pillbox hat and you’ve basically got Kaia Gerber on the runway.

Season 5, episode 9 – MODERN BIG BOUNCY BLOWDRY – Balmain SS 2018

The big bouncy blow-dry is back, replacing the trend of cool, undone hair – but still, somehow, looks effortless. Think 80s swooshes and hair that’s touchable, rather than set. Something like Mindy Simmons’ auburn blow-out. No wonder she stole Homer’s heart.

Season 3, episode 20 – RETRO COWGIRL – Tata Naka FW 2018

The fall 2018 runways included a heavy dose of Western wear, and few people sum up cowgirl style like Simpsons country queen, Lurleen Lumpkin. Her bouffant ponytail and curly bangs are pleasingly retro, while the headband is a perfect nod to the current accessories trend.

Season 15, Episode 12 – SCHOOLGIRL BRAIDS – Prada Resort 2018

Put together schoolgirl braid trend and excessive accessories and what do you get? Bart’s school pal, Nina Skalka. Wearing two trends at once isn’t always advisable, lest you look like well, a 9-year-old cartoon character. But those sleek braids and pretty bows separately? Now you’re talking.

Season 10, episode 12 – CHOPPY BOB – Sonia Rykiel SS 2018

This once-seen, never-forgotten character showcases quite possibly the most perfect hair for 2018 – even if it was drawn in 1999. The shoulder-skimming choppy bob, the sweeping bangs and – yes, of course – that hat feel like they should belong to the most-liked streetwear girl on Instagram, not a random gas station assistant from a forgotten episode.
